Ce rapport fait la synthèse des travaux réalisés en 2008 et en 2009 au cours du programme Selecmer. Celui-ci, réalisé à l'initiative des professionnels de la pêche en partenariat avec l'Ifremer, avait pour objectif de travailler à améliorer la sélectivité du chalut de fond qu'ils utilisent afin de diminuer les rejets des individus hors-tailles1, en particulier pour le merlan, tout en limitant les pertes commerciales immédiates. Une première phase a consisté à tester l'efficacité de fenêtres à mailles carrées. La deuxième phase a eu pour objectif de développer une grille sélective. The results of a survey on fishers' perceptions of recent changes in the eastern English Channel ecosystem carried out in 2006 were compared with fishery and bottom-trawl survey data. A hypothesis-testing framework was used, testing the null hypothesis that fishers' statements were true, which permitted evaluation of both agreement and disagreement. Overall good agreement between fishers' statements and scientific data was found, and both sources suggested that the fish community in the Channel is undergoing large changes, among which are decreases in some commercially important species; in addition, a number of human pressures impact the ecosystem. The fragile state of the cod stock in the North Sea and Western Scotland has made the European Commission take a certain amount of measures to reconstitute these stocks since the end of 2001. One of those measures consisted of improving the selection capacity of the bottom otter trawls in order to reduce the capture of juveniles, through a compulsory selection device of square mesh panel type. In this context, the Regional Marine Fisheries Committee of Nord/Pas-de-Calais/Picardie, which is against any increase of the mesh size but agrees with the adoption of a new selection device, decided to organize technical trials along with the IFREMER, so as to evaluate its efficiency. Weight–Body Length relationships (WLR) of 45 fish species (37 Actinopterygii and eight Elasmobranchii) were investigated. A total of 31,167 individuals were caught and their biological parameters measured during the four quarters from 2013 to 2015, on five scientific surveys sampling the North-eastern Atlantic Ocean from the North Sea to the Bay of Biscay (ICES Divisions IVb, IVc, VIId, VIIe, VIIg, VIIh, VIIj, VIIIa and VIIIb). Among 45 tested species, all showed a significant correlation between total length (L) and total weight (W). A principal component analysis was performed on the data (taxa and observations) which were segregated during the summer into two groups of taxa related to two groups of stations belonging to two different hydrodynamical areas. In July and August 1980 during a tide cycle, zooplankton was investigated at two stations in the stratified and transitional area. Periodic fluctuations of meroplanktonic taxa correlated to the movement of the front induced by the tide were observed.
